Meanwhile, in America

It’s all part of the plan. Canadians will all be stoned when we invade.

Will you look at that.
In my country the law that prohibits the use of pot is “unconstitutional” but nothing will be done because five people have to sue the government in order for the law to change, as of now only three people have sued them.
Those are the only three Mexicans that can smoke pot as they wish.

Yes. Yes we can.

I know that it’s probably been around forever, but that’s one of the greatest flags I’ve ever seen.

I’m glad it passed because the arguments that were holding it up didn’t seem reasonable to me. I understand why those politicians felt that way but I thought the arguments were flawed.
While I’m still disappointed in decisions to distribute it through government outlets (although this is a provincial matter, I believe), as a whole I think this is a major step forward.

Are they legally allowed to sell it to other people? Because if so, they’re set for life.
Also, why havn’t more people sued? Do the police just not enforce it or something?

Call me a party pooper, but I am not looking forward to the accident rate going up...

But pot makes you a better driver . Didn’t you know that?

When I went to college in 1984 (!!), I wrote my entrance essay arguing that pot should be legalized. It didn’t hurt that I was a pot smoker at the time, but I argued that it would be a huge moneymaker for the government.

No, they are not allowed to sell it, but they can buy it, grow it, and import it. Bare in mind that the three groups that sued them was a huge activist group, a rich lawyer, and a former presidential candidate.
Plus, as with other unconstitutionalities, judges become more weary as they run out of
amparos
to give before forcing a law out of existence. As far as I can understand, they declared the general healthcare law unconstitutional in 2015, and since then they’ve been waiting on the government to regulate pot, as of now medicinal marihuana is legal across the country, but it’s only gone so far.
I think it has more to do with the complexity of suing the government and being taken all the way to the supreme court. You’re also allowed to have up to 5 grams for personal use regardless of whether you sued the government or not. Keep in mind that with five grams you could potentially have 3 joints? (I don’t smoke weed, so I don’t know about portion size), and to most pot smokers their immediate worries about consumption are cleared. Mexican law is also rather strict about inspecting property, heck, until last year the law interpreted your car as “part of your property” and thus the police would literally need a warrant to inspect your car!

Same here, but freshman English essay class and 1996.

Wait when did Canada switch to a Japanese Maple leaf?

Coming so soon after Trump went around his back and ordered the DOJ to back off on federal marijuana prosecutions, he’s liable to have a heart attack now.

Not sure if you’re serious.
Arestoners safer behind the wheel than drunks? Probably. Are they safer than sober folks? I’m guessing no. The lower crash rate could just bee caused by the displacement of alcohol by thc.

Legal, 200% tax. O Canada...

You’re also allowed to have up to 5 grams for personal use regardless of whether you sued the government or not.
That’s not bad at all. In Washington state were it’s legal, it’s still a similar thing. I think the quantity is a little higher, but your still not allowed to have more than a certain amount.

“Those are the only three Mexicans that can smoke pot as they wish.”

I smoked a fair amount of dope 30 years ago, and I’d be lying if I said I never drove stoned. I’ve also heard it postulated numerous times that it makes you “better.” One thing pot can do is make you focus very carefully at something, or on a task, but it can also give you tunnel vision, and all these years of driving have taught me that you have to have your head on a swivel when you drive. So anything that gives you a single focus while driving is not a good thing. I’m sure it all varies by the individual, but I am certainly not advocating driving under the influence of anything.

Damn and I already just moved, not doing that shit again.

We legalized it down here several years ago, (which I mostly agree with - legalize, regulate, tax). The only noticeable change I see is that many more folks smoke it while driving than prior to legalization which is a bit frustrating...

Have DUIs and/or accidents gone up?

Weed is fun but, treat it as a color. Don’t fucking drive if you plan on partaking.

officially no, but the science is a bit dicey still I think - BAC level vs corresponding impairment seems to be more consistent than with THC. We really still are in the “we’re figuring it out” stage... Plus now there is a level you can be under and still legally drive whereas there wasn’t before so less “high” drivers can get ticketed now which would skew numbers down a bit.

About 25 years ago, my wife and I went out to the Big Bend of Texas. Out there, you’re literally hundreds of miles from any decent sized city. I asked our river guide if there were any police in the Bend, and she said, “Out here, there’s order, but there’s no law.” Nowadays, it’s probably crawling with La Migra.
